About

On April 14th, 2016, Education Nation (now NBC News Learn) and WBAL 11 hosted a parent town hall on supporting students in Baltimore and beyond. The event featured 6 panels total on a range of education and parenting topics. I produced two panels for this event, one focused on Baltimore food deserts and the other on the impact of Freddie Gray's death on students.

Eduation as Empowermnet Panel: In April 2015, Freddie Gray died after being in police custody and riots broke out in Baltimore. The panel focused on the effect of those events on students, and efforts to help them move forward and feel empowered.

Healthy Living, Happy Kids Panel: One in four adults and 30 percent of school age children live in food deserts in Baltimore, where access to healthy and fresh food is a challenge. In order for kids to perform their best, they need good food as well as access to healthcare and exercise. This discussion focused on efforts underway in Baltimore to bring fresh foods to families, and how parents nationwide can raise healthy, happy kids.
